PTA Confirms X is No Longer Banned in Pakistan

Twitter, now known as X, is once again fully accessible in Pakistan after a year of blockage. The social media platform can be accessed both on mobile and on the web without using any virtual private network (VPN) apps.

Reports of X’s recovery had started surfacing a few hours after midnight in Pakistan, but the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has now officially confirmed that the social media app is no longer blocked.

The development came shortly after the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan amid missile attacks in areas of Bahawalpur and Muzaffarabad. As retaliation, Pakistan shot down multiple Indian fighter jets for attacking the country.

The death toll from the Indian attacks reached 26 in total, and 46 were injured, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday. The attacks targeted civilian areas and religious sites such as mosques, causing significant casualties and damage.

As it stands, Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) has authorized the country’s armed forces to respond to recent Indian military strikes. In a statement released earlier today, the government said in strong words:

In consonance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, Pakistan reserves the right to respond, in self-defense, at a time, place, and manner of its choosing to avenge the loss of innocent Pakistani lives and blatant violation of its sovereignty.
