Mohammad Waseem Clinches WBA World Bantamweight Title in Thrilling Home Victory

In a night charged with electric energy at the Polo Club in Quetta, Pakistan’s own Mohammad Waseem delivered a masterclass in boxing, stopping Venezuela’s Winston Orono in the ninth round to capture the prestigious WBA World Gold Bantamweight Title.

The victory not only marks a historic milestone for Waseem but also ignites pride across the nation as he claimed the crown on home turf.

From the opening bell, Waseem showcased sharp footwork and precise combinations, gradually wearing down the Venezuelan challenger.

Orono, known for his resilience, absorbed heavy shots but couldn’t withstand the relentless pressure and tactical prowess of the Pakistani contender. The ninth round saw Waseem land a decisive flurry that forced the referee to step in, awarding him a well-deserved stoppage victory.

Speaking moments after the fight, a visibly emotional Waseem dedicated his triumph to Pakistan. “This win is for every Pakistani who believed in me,” he said.

To lift a world title in front of my home crowd is a feeling beyond words — a memory I will cherish forever.

The championship bout was part of a high-profile international boxing event organized under the World Boxing Association (WBA) banner, in partnership with the Government of Balochistan. The tournament attracted elite fighters from over nine countries, featuring eight intense bouts, including four title clashes, underscoring the event’s global significance.
