FBR Hopes to Recover Rs. 250 Billion Out of Rs. 850 Billion Stuck in Courts

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is hopeful of recovering Rs. 250 billion currently stuck in litigation within the next two months, official sources told ProPakistani.

Sources said special constitutional benches have been formed in both the Supreme Court and High Court to expedite decisions on key tax cases.

Of the Rs. 850 billion in tax-related cases pending across various courts, sources say the FBR has a 100 percent chance of winning disputes involving Rs. 250 billion. To speed up proceedings, these cases are now being heard on a daily basis.

Recently, the FBR recovered Rs. 20 billion from two major companies. Meanwhile, cases involving Rs. 200 billion in super tax claims remain unresolved in the courts. An additional Rs. 600 billion worth of tax disputes are still pending in various tribunals.
