Barcelona Seals 28th LaLiga Crown

In a season defined by relentless ambition and a clear footballing identity, FC Barcelona have clinched their 28th LaLiga title, capping a remarkable first campaign under Hansi Flick. Their 2-0 win over city rivals Espanyol sealed the crown with two games to spare, as the Catalans pulled seven points clear of Real Madrid following a fiercely competitive run-in.

Needing just two points to win the crown, Barcelona relied on Lamine Yamal’s wonder strike to get things going against their cross-town rivals before Fermin Lopez’s late goal sealed the deal in style.

This title, though, wasn’t merely about the numbers—it was about a team transformed. Taking over from Xavi Hernández after a trophyless year, Flick inherited a young, inconsistent squad and turned it into Spain’s most dynamic unit. His high-pressing, aggressive style led to 11 wins in the first 12 league games, including a stunning 4-0 away demolition of Madrid in October. While a mid-season slump briefly saw Barcelona drop behind both Madrid clubs, the Blaugrana roared back in 2025 with an unbeaten league run that ultimately proved decisive.

The turnaround has been emphatic. Flick’s Barcelona have scored four or more goals in 13 LaLiga matches—a level of attacking output not seen since the peak of the Messi era. Standouts included Lamine Yamal’s emergence, Raphinha’s most prolific campaign, Robert Lewandowski’s consistency, and Pedri’s stabilizing presence in midfield. Their 4-3 El Clásico win last weekend, their fourth victory over Madrid this season, virtually sealed the title and underlined their superiority.

Flick, who also lifted the Supercopa and Copa del Rey earlier this year—both after beating Madrid in the final—now has a domestic treble to show for his debut season.

While disappointment in the Champions League semifinal against Inter remains, Barcelona’s domestic dominance suggests a team built to last.

“This is a family,” Flick said after sealing the title. “Everyone plays their part. And that’s what makes champions.”

Barcelona still has games against Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao remaining on the schedule, but with the title already in the bank, a more relaxed atmosphere is expected.
