The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested four individuals at Karachi airport on Saturday for their alleged involvement in human trafficking operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to an official FIA statement, the suspects—originating from Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujranwala—were apprehended upon arrival in Pakistan. They had been convicted of illegal activities in the UAE and were deported after completing their prison terms.
The FIA noted that the individuals entered Pakistan using emergency travel documents.
The agency confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to its Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi for further legal proceedings.
Earlier in January, more than 30 FIA personnel were removed from service and charged with facilitating illegal migration.
The crackdown intensified after a boat carrying undocumented migrants sank near Greece in December last year. Over 80 Pakistanis lost their lives in the incident, while 36 were rescued; others remain unaccounted for.
In the aftermath, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to take strict measures against traffickers and their accomplices. Since then, a nationwide operation has led to multiple arrests. FIA Lahore alone detained 177 suspected traffickers in the past three months.
