In a significant development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has officially introduced laser kidney stone treatment for children under the public healthcare system.
The new facility has been established at the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) in Hayatabad, where it was formally inaugurated by Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali. During his visit, the advisor also inaugurated several other new units at the institute, including a modern emergency department, pediatric lithotripsy service, a microbiology laboratory, and a new administrative block.

Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali reviewed the success of non-surgical laser procedures for treating kidney stones in children, praising the innovative technique for being both effective and minimally invasive.
He noted that these advancements will further enhance the institute’s capacity to serve the public efficiently, highlighting that the Institute of Kidney Diseases has consistently delivered outstanding performance.
Additionally, he emphasized that efforts are underway to strengthen healthcare services in 32 hospitals across the province. By upgrading facilities in district hospitals, pressure on major hospitals in Peshawar will be reduced, ultimately improving overall healthcare delivery.
