AMD Strikes Back: New $300 RX 9060 XT Beats Nvidia on Price and Power

AMD has officially introduced the Radeon RX 9060 XT, a new graphics card aimed at the competitive mid-range market. The GPU is available in two configurations—8GB and 16GB of GDDR6 memory—and is priced below Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti lineup, making it a direct challenger in the sub-$400 segment.

Architecture and Performance

Built on AMD’s latest RDNA 4 architecture, the Radeon RX 9060 XT features 32 compute units, 32 ray accelerators, and 64 AI accelerators. The card offers a game frequency of 2,530 MHz and a boost clock of up to 3,130 MHz. In terms of performance, it delivers 25.6 teraflops of peak single-precision compute power.

The GPU is also designed to support AI workloads with up to 410 TOPS of INT8 and 821 TOPS of INT4 compute, expanding its utility beyond traditional gaming applications.

Memory and Efficiency

The RX 9060 XT is available in 8GB and 16GB GDDR6 memory variants, both connected via a 128-bit bus capable of up to 320 GB/s memory bandwidth. Each version includes 32MB of Infinity Cache to enhance data access speeds.

Power consumption is modest compared to higher-end models. The 8GB variant has a Total Board Power (TBP) of 150W, while the 16GB version is rated at 160W. Both models are powered through a standard 8-pin connector and support full PCIe 5.0 x16 compatibility.

Software and Connectivity

AMD’s latest GPU integrates full support for FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4, enabled in part by FP8 acceleration for smoother upscaling performance. Users also benefit from updated connectivity, including DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b, with encode and decode support for H.265 and AV1 video formats.

Availability and Pricing

AMD will not release a reference version of the RX 9060 XT. Instead, the GPU will be distributed through its board partners, including Acer, ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston. These third-party variants are expected to hit the market later this year.

The Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB version is priced at $300, while the 16GB model costs $350. In comparison, Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti is priced at $380 for the 8GB version and $430 for the 16GB model. The standard RTX 5060 with 8GB memory matches AMD’s $300 price tag, setting the stage for intense competition.
