The Sindh government has enforced a two-month ban on dumping waste into Karachi’s drainage system in a bid to prevent blockages during the upcoming monsoon season.
The ban will help avoid environmental hazards and overflow incidents caused by clogged nullahs.
The order was issued by Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi and prohibits the disposal of garbage, solid waste, debris, and other materials into drains. Police have been directed to take action against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
This is the second such restriction this year. A similar ban was enforced in March 2025, with authorities urging public, private, and autonomous institutions to support sanitation improvements in the city.
Separately, the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) issued a monsoon preparedness alert on May 26. The advisory outlines safety measures to mitigate risks from heavy rains, strong winds, and potential flooding.
These include monitoring ship safety, securing mooring lines, maintaining standby generators, and relocating small boats to safer areas less exposed to wind and water pressure. All pilots are to remain on standby throughout the season.
