The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatstroke advisory for Karachi with temperatures expected to soar above 40°C amid the recent heatwave.
According to the PMD, hot and dry conditions have gripped the metropolis, with humidity reaching 61 percent on Wednesday. The lack of sea breeze has worsened the situation, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke. Residents have been advised to take extra precautions, avoid direct sunlight, and stay hydrated, especially between 11 am and 4 pm when heat intensity peaks.
A PMD official stated that strong, hot and dry winds from the southeast, blowing at speeds of 25 to 35 kilometres per hour, are expected throughout the day. Partial recovery of the sea breeze is likely in the evening. The department has ruled out any chance of rain in Karachi for the day, forecasting clear skies and continued hot weather in the coming days.
Similar hot and dry weather is affecting much of Sindh and Balochistan, with heatwave conditions expected to persist in southern regions. In Punjab, high temperatures dominated, though scattered showers are forecast for several areas in the evening or night. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reported hot weather, with rain likely in some northern districts.
Islamabad is expected to remain hot and dry during the day, with possible rain and wind in the evening. Rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms are also forecast for parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, offering some relief from the widespread heat.
