Punjab Announces Relief for Vehicle Owners Ahead of Emission Testing Deadline

Lahore witnessed long queues of vehicles as thousands rushed to get their emission levels checked before the June 30 deadline. Acting on Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, the Punjab government has announced major relief for citizens to ease pressure on emission testing facilities.

According to Director General Environment Protection Department Punjab, Imran Hamid Sheikh, several emission testing booths have been set up across key locations in Lahore to manage the growing rush.

These include areas such as Gajju Matta, Saggian Toll Plaza, Central Park, Bedian Road, Valencia Town, Racecourse Park, Marghzar Colony, Minar-e-Pakistan, Allama Iqbal Town, Shahdara Colony, Paragon City, Manawan Training Center, Gymkhana Club, LDA Avenue, Bahria Town, and DHA Raya.

In addition, booths have also been established in major educational institutions including Punjab University, LUMS, Lahore School of Economics, Aitchison College, FC College, and Allama Iqbal Medical College.

Green sticker booths will operate from 9 am to 5 pm daily. Raja Jahangir Anwar has reminded vehicle owners that June 30 is the final date to comply with emission checks.

The step is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to improve air quality and ensure all vehicles meet environmental standards.

  • This is good initiative but for the vehicle owner to meet these standards up to Europe
Is impossible as fuel quality is least poor , low octane , dust in the air which pass through combustion causes damage to the engines.
Initially Govt should make sure supply of quality fuel and make sure no vehicle to produce smoke specially rickshaw , chingche, motorcycles, heavy transport. Many factories still burn wood and rubber tires and Scrap shops burn tyres and cable to recover copper and iron. Smoke from left over of crops which are burnt in the fields. Industry burn rubber after the sun set and Govt offices are closed. If Govt succeed in stopping all this excess smoke , will be great success towards clean environment. Biggest environment issue is corruption which cause in efficiency. Every step that is taken for some thing better provides new channels for more corruption.for example , Food authority was established to improve food quality but they are money making machine for the govt and for themselves now. Food and quality is as it and even worse than before Food authority.
This is important to improve things to be improved on Govt side 1st , Teach the nation , take time and implement slowly and let the society get absorb and get tuned. BR

    • Sir, our country needs people like you who know on ground reality n let educate slowly rather than taking sticks n start beating like old school Masters….

  • Better option is to convert all petrol vehicles on CNG or LPG which emit less smoke as compared to petrol vehicles

  • New doors for corruption. Soon you’ll see cars n rickshaw with green stickers emitting smoke from sliencers

    • Awaam ko truck ki batti k peche laga hota ha bs wo laga diya. Aik or dehari tayar ha june july k baad

    • Correct. All new vehicles will pass the test. Problem is basically with old and especially diesel vehicals. Petrol engine should be tested for 10 yrs old vehicles.

  • Fake report. Some of the mentioned testing centers do not even exist.
Looks like Punjab govt is paying these platforms (including pakwheels) to not criticize them or point out the issues.

    • New way to loot the public,

This system has failed to serve the humanity.

It is failing in Europe and america, and still those mental slaves are trying to implement something which is caused by there own negligence.

Many as raksha driver, ching ching drivers buses and a family who can’t afford a new car would be hurt of this policy. But who care !!!

There actually policy is not ghurbat ko hatao its gjarib ko hato, mar do, khatam kar do !!!!

      Useless system !!!!

  • What about the quality of fuel available at petrol station. Authorities should first ensure the quality control alt fuel stations.

  • There are around seven million vehicles, big or small in Lahore. All the testing booths, working round the clock, cannot meet the deadline. The authorities should have a realistic approach. It will be more practicable if the all the gas stations are equipped with the testing apparatuses. Theses tests should be carried out on regular basis.

  • Diesel Vehicles like Land Cruisers, 4×4, SUV, etc first Checked not normal cars.

  • In Daroghawala side, a number of factories burning carbon as fuel and polute the environment. No one focusing there.

  • Don’t know who formulated the vehicles emission policy, seem he has no idea, atleast would have done copy paste of other countries policy.
First and foremost is to ensure the assembler to adhere international emissions standards :
1, vehicles age should be considered
2, Initial focus on HTV & LTV
    3, Comercial vehicles
    4, private vehicles
