Sindh Cancels Transport Department Eid Holidays to Curb Fare Hikes

The Sindh government has cancelled all Eid ul-Adha holidays for officials of the Provincial Transport Authority, Regional Transport Authorities, and District Transport Authorities. This move aims to ensure strict monitoring of transport fares and to address public complaints during the busy festival period swiftly.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that all transport officers will remain on duty throughout Eid ul-Adha to prevent overcharging by transporters. He emphasized that only government-approved fares must be charged, and any violations will result in strict action against the offenders.

Memon highlighted the importance of facilitating citizens who travel to meet their families during Eid, stressing that the government’s priority is to make travel easier and fair for everyone. He urged the public to report any instances of overcharging. If field officers do not respond promptly, citizens can directly contact the Deputy Secretary of Transport at 0346-2522641.

The Sindh government has encouraged the public to pay only the official fares and to report any violations immediately.

Meanwhile, the federal government has announced a four-day public holiday for Eid ul-Adha, from June 6 to June 9, 2025, following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that Eid ul-Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7, after the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted on Tuesday.
