The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has imposed a 100 percent increase in fares for feeder metro and electric buses operating in Islamabad.
Effective June 1, 2025, the one-way fare for Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line feeder buses, and all electric buses has been raised from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 across all routes and stops.
The fare hike affects all 17 routes covered by the feeder metro and electric bus services in the city.
According to CDA officials, nearly 90,000 commuters use these buses daily. The increase will significantly affect daily wage earners, office workers, and students who rely on these services for affordable transportation.
CDA authorities have cited a cut in the subsidy as the main reason for the fare hike. Previously, the government was covering 50 percent of the operational cost through subsidies, but this has now been reduced to 30 percent.
Despite the increase in fares, CDA will still bear an annual subsidy burden of Rs. 1.5 to 1.75 billion, down from the previous Rs. 3.5 billion.
This is the second attempt by the CDA to raise fares. A similar decision was taken earlier for May 26 but was withdrawn following strong public opposition. However, the revised fares have now been implemented without any rollback.
