CDA Announces 100% Increase in Ticket Prices of Metro and Electric Buses in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has imposed a 100 percent increase in fares for feeder metro and electric buses operating in Islamabad.

Effective June 1, 2025, the one-way fare for Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line feeder buses, and all electric buses has been raised from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 across all routes and stops.

The fare hike affects all 17 routes covered by the feeder metro and electric bus services in the city.

According to CDA officials, nearly 90,000 commuters use these buses daily. The increase will significantly affect daily wage earners, office workers, and students who rely on these services for affordable transportation.

CDA authorities have cited a cut in the subsidy as the main reason for the fare hike. Previously, the government was covering 50 percent of the operational cost through subsidies, but this has now been reduced to 30 percent.

Despite the increase in fares, CDA will still bear an annual subsidy burden of Rs. 1.5 to 1.75 billion, down from the previous Rs. 3.5 billion.

This is the second attempt by the CDA to raise fares. A similar decision was taken earlier for May 26 but was withdrawn following strong public opposition. However, the revised fares have now been implemented without any rollback.

Subject: Request to Reconsider Metro Bus Fare Increase

    Respected Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention the issue of the recent fare increase.

Sir, I travel daily from G13 Station to G10 station daily on this route, and the new fare has been raised to Rs. 100, which is significantly higher compared to other Metro Bus routes throughout Pakistan. In many cities where Metro Bus Service has been launched, the fare does not exceed Rs. 50. This is because the service is primarily used by ordinary citizens and those with limited income.

I believe that maintaining a fare of Rs. 50 would be more appropriate and fair. For instance, the Metro Bus Service from Rawalpindi to Islamabad has a fare of only Rs. 30. Therefore, charging Rs. 100 for this route seems unjust and places an additional burden on the daily commuters.

I humbly request you to kindly reconsider this fare and reduce it to Rs. 50 to ensure that the Metro Bus Service remains affordable for everyone, especially those from less privileged backgrounds.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

    Yours sincerely,
    Ahmad Zeb

  • Student rent should be halved, this is a very high increase, CDA should reconsider its decision for students

  • Metro fare is increased,it is very defecult for students and daily weages Persons
Make a student, daily weages & a Senior citizens low paid card accordingly.

  • There is no proper main route of metro bus as compare to route number public transport.Route number public transport is more secure than metro transport.

  • I request to authorities Please make a system that a passenger travelling from home to office/colleg or any other destination and change / used more than 1 roots bear only 100 fare for one side. I mean 1 ticket for 1 side even used more than 1 root

  • The increase in fair is outrageous. It will effect the lower class earning daily 900 a day and spending 200 on two ways.
