Vehicle Emission Testing Begins in Another Major City After Lahore

To address the growing threat of air pollution, the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), in collaboration with the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), has launched a year-long vehicle emission testing campaign across the federal capital.

The initiative began on Wednesday with inspections at three key points: the I-9 Traffic Police Check Post, Tayyaba Steel Mills, and 7-Up Chowk in the I-9 Industrial Area.

On the campaign’s first day, officials inspected 50 vehicles, revealing widespread non-compliance with emission standards:

  1. 11 vehicles were fined for emitting smoke levels exceeding 70%.
  2. 3 vehicles were impounded for dangerous emissions over 80%.
  3. 20 vehicles received warnings for smoke levels between 40% and 50%.
  4. Only 16 vehicles fell within the acceptable emission range of 10% to 40%.

“This initiative is crucial for safeguarding public health and the environment,” said a Pak-EPA spokesperson. “We urge vehicle owners to maintain their vehicles properly to avoid penalties.”

Authorities confirmed that emission checks will be conducted regularly throughout the year at various locations in Islamabad, with continued efforts to ensure cleaner air for city residents.
