Weather Department Issues Forecast for Eid Holidays

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide alert, warning of an expected surge in temperatures from June 7 to June 12, as a result of a high-pressure weather system set to impact large parts of the country.

According to the advisory, upper Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience temperatures 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, while Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan could see a rise of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during this period.

The weather system will begin intensifying on June 7, with its effects expanding to most regions by June 8, continuing through June 12. As a result, central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to remain significantly hotter than usual.

The PMD has also forecast dust storms and gusty winds across the plains due to the extreme heat conditions. Citizens, especially children, the elderly, and women, have been advised to avoid direct sun exposure, stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, and increase their water intake to stay hydrated.

Advisory for Farmers and Local Authorities

Farmers are urged to plan their agricultural activities in line with the forecasted weather conditions. The department also cautioned that rising temperatures in the northern areas could accelerate glacial melt, potentially impacting downstream water flows.

All relevant agencies and disaster management authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to safeguard the population from the anticipated heatwave.
