English county cricket team Worcestershire has secured a mid-season acquisition by signing Pakistan’s Khurram Shahzad for the remainder of the season. The internationally capped Test seamer will join their squad next month and be available across all formats until the end of the campaign.
The 25-year-old right-arm swing bowler, who made his Test debut in 2023, is set to add significant depth and experience to Worcestershire’s bowling stocks. Khurram Shahzad has already made a name for himself on the international stage, but his stint with Worcestershire will be his first outing in county cricket.
His move comes on the recommendation of none other than former Pakistan captain and Worcestershire fan favourite Azhar Ali, who advised the club to take a closer look at the young quick.
Shahzad, who recently played a key role in Quetta Gladiators’ run to the PSL 2025 final, expressed his excitement about the opportunity.
“Joining a club like Worcestershire and getting the chance to enhance my skills is something I am really excited about,” said Khurram Shahzad. “I have always had ambitions to play in England, so this was a chance I was desperate to take. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully contribute across all the different formats.”
Shahzad is expected to be available from July 4, when Worcestershire Rapids travel to Headingley to face Yorkshire in the Vitality Blast. His arrival comes at a crucial time as the club looks to stay competitive across all formats during the second half of the summer. Khurram Shahzad will have his work cut out for him as he joins Worcestershire. The team currently sits 4th in the T20 Blast North Group while they are bottom of the Division One County Championship with 54 points in seven games. The One-Day Cup will start on August 5.
For Shahzad, this is not just another contract — it’s an opportunity to challenge himself in English conditions, gain experience, and make a lasting impression in county cricket. For Worcestershire, it’s a timely boost that could make all the difference in a tightly packed schedule.
