Lahore New Road Produces Solar Energy, Has a Dedicated Bicycle Lane, and Artificial Lake for Water Storage

Punjab’s Central Business District (CBD) has unveiled Route 47, a major new roadway designed to significantly ease traffic and reduce travel time between Gulberg and Walton to just a few minutes.

Stretching 4.5 kilometers with three lanes in each direction, the newly opened dual carriageway connects Leader Road in Gulberg directly to the CBD Gate in Walton, offering a long-awaited solution to heavy congestion in the area.

CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin inaugurated the route with a ceremonial drive-through. The project also highlights several sustainable features, including solar power generation, a dedicated cycling lane, and an artificial lake for water storage—all part of the Green Punjab initiative.

Commuters have welcomed the development, noting that a trip that once took around 20 minutes can now be completed in under five minutes.

Officials say Route 47 will not only streamline traffic but also improve overall connectivity in Lahore’s growing business district.
