Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in fares for all classes of passenger trains and freight services, a move that appears linked to the recent hike in fuel prices.
According to a notification issued by the Railway Headquarters, passenger train fares will go up by 3% starting June 20, 2025. The new rates will apply to both advance reservations and current bookings.
Freight services will see a 4% fare increase from June 23, while charges at the Azakhel Dry Port will rise by 10%.
This revision comes shortly after the Finance Division announced a significant increase in fuel prices on Sunday night. The price of petrol was raised by Rs. 4.80 per litre, while diesel saw a hike of Rs. 7.95 per litre.
The timing suggests that the rise in fuel costs could be a major factor behind the decision to revise railway fares.
