The Attock district administration has declared a livestock emergency and imposed Section 144 for 15 days, prohibiting the inter-district movement of cattle and the holding of cattle markets. This decision follows the death of a 24-year-old man from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in Hazro town.
District officials, including those from health and livestock departments, are on high alert after the man, identified as Majid Ali from Ghourghushti village, exhibited symptoms of CCHF.
He was admitted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hazro on June 12 and later referred to a hospital in Rawalpindi. His blood sample was sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad, where it was confirmed on June 16 that he had contracted the virus.
CCHF is a viral hemorrhagic disease transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals, primarily through handling livestock or their bodily fluids. It can also spread between humans via direct contact with infected blood or fluids.
In response to the outbreak, District Health Authority CEO Dr. Asad Ismail confirmed the laboratory findings and stated that emergency measures were activated, including the Tehsil Rapid Response Team (TRRT) and the District Livestock Department. Health teams have ensured the safe burial of the deceased and are monitoring close contacts as per standard operating procedures.
