The free Emission Testing System (ETS) service in Lahore is expected to end on June 30, with the government now planning to shift the responsibility to private vehicle dealerships across the city.
According to Environment Protection and Climate Change Department Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, once the free service concludes, ETS-related services will be outsourced to dealerships of all car and vehicle manufacturing companies operating in Lahore.
These dealerships will be equipped with ETS machines and trained staff to carry out emission tests. Vehicle owners will be required to pay Rs. 400 per test at these centers.
The department believes this strategy will help increase the number of tested vehicles significantly. Raja Jahangir Anwar stated that providing the service through authorized dealerships will improve efficiency and convenience for vehicle owners, especially as the demand continues to grow.
The ETS initiative was originally launched as a free-of-cost service, with 20 centers operating across Lahore. Each center typically houses three squads, but long queues and complaints of delays have highlighted the system’s limitations.
With the new plan in place, the department hopes to streamline the emission testing process and move towards broader enforcement once a sufficient number of vehicles have been tested.

Why are only 4 wheel vehicles being tested when the vast majority of 3 and 2 wheelers (rickshaws and bikes) are polluting the air with visible smoke from their exhausts? Considering that the number of bikes in the city far exceed the cars, their combined pollution can be far more serious.
Is this system being introduced only in punjab. If no why only in punjab.
You should start it by yourself in your province. I have tested and get passed yesterday in lahore.

I think cars older than 5 years be tested as chances of emission failures in new cars are zero
More than three years or below 2022 by year of registration.
Why don’t they start the paid testing at dealerships now? It’s not like we don’t want to get the test done but has this stupid department seen the extremely long lines at all the testing locations?!. It’s a needed intervention but as usual Govt never really thinking of the people. Stupid idiots!!

Whose stupid idea is this to test post 2020 vehicles? The most smoke emitting vehicles are rickshaws, loaders, chinchi’s, motorcycles and old private buses/vans. They are not checking these type of vehicles for carbon emission. For God’s sake have some common sense.
This facility is currently available only in lahore, not in other cities. Without providing this facility to other cities applying charges is simply a discrimination
It’s gimmick and cause more carbon emissions wasted people time in long standing queues. It should be free of cost at authorised service centres because we pay them to service the car and they should fulfil their promise.

Staff not available at sites a lot of times – false advertisement of operational sites – data not being uploaded despite passing the test.

آپکو بتاتا چلوں گاڑی کا انجن اگر دھواں دے گا تو مالک کی جان پر بن جاتی ھے۔کہ میری گاڑی کا انجن تو گیا۔
اس لئیے کاروں سے توجہ ھٹائیں۔اور ڈیزل گاڑیوں پر توجہ دیں۔ عوام کا وقت ضائع نہ کریں۔۔
بلکل درست فرمایا پہلے غریب موٹر سائیکل رکشہ ڈرائیورز کا گلہ گھوٹنا چاہیے ان کا گلہ آسانی سے گھوٹا جا سکتا ہے ان کو پہلے ایک ہیلمٹ پھر دو ہیلمٹ کا بوجھ اٹھانے پر مجبور کیا گیا اور بڑی گاڑیوں کو تو کوئی روکنے کی ہمت نہیں کر سکتا

بھی دھواں نہی مارتی کیونکہ اگر دھواں مارے گی تو مالک کی جان پر بن جائے گی۔ یہ گاڑی کے انجن کا مسئلہ ھے
