In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Pakistan has conducted its first successful liver transplant for a patient whose colon cancer had spread to the liver.
The complex procedure was carried out at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, where a woman from Karachi — initially diagnosed with cancer in the lower part of her colon — underwent a liver transplant after the disease advanced to her liver.
For the first time in the country, surgeons removed the patient’s entire liver affected by cancer and replaced it with a portion of her husband’s liver.
According to doctors, the woman’s liver was completely damaged due to the cancer, prompting her husband to donate the left lobe of his liver to save her life.
Sources confirmed that the patient has now fully recovered from cancer and is living a normal, healthy life.
