Benazir Hunarmand Program Launched to Equip Youth With In-Demand Skills

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday launched the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, aimed at providing advanced vocational training to Pakistani youth, particularly in technology and foreign languages, to help them compete in global markets.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Zardari said the new initiative builds on the success of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which has empowered millions of underprivileged families. He said the Hunarmand Programme will now prepare the youth for economic self-reliance through skill development.

The program will offer training in fields such as nursing, computer technology, and languages like German and Chinese. The President called nursing a high-demand profession globally and urged special focus on training in this sector.

He said the programme reflects the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, whose birthday was also observed during the event. Zardari reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Pakistan’s youth have the tools needed to build a better future.

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, said the programme will use BISP’s database to target deserving individuals and promote economic inclusion. Rs. 716 billion has been allocated for BISP in the upcoming fiscal year.
