In a move aimed at supporting low-income citizens and encouraging undocumented individuals to register, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has upgraded the non-chip Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) without increasing its fee.
The updated CNIC now offers bilingual printing, with names and parentage written in both Urdu and English. Additionally, a QR code has been added to replace the traditional thumb impression for easier and more secure verification.
NADRA has also reduced the delivery time for the non-chip CNICs, cutting the wait period from 30 days to just 6 to 15 days. These enhancements are part of NADRA’s efforts to make identity documentation more accessible and efficient for underserved segments of the population.
Despite the improvements, there will be no increase in the cost of obtaining the card. For first-time applicants, the non-chip CNIC will continue to be issued free of charge.
