NDMA Warns of Urban Flooding in Major Cities Amid Heavy Rains

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urban flood alert for several major cities in Pakistan, warning of potential flooding due to heavy rainfall between June 25 and July 1. The affected areas include Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, and Muzaffarabad.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and intense downpours are expected in various regions over the next five days. The NDMA has advised residents in these areas to take precautionary measures to stay safe.

The forecast also predicts thunderstorms in parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Karachi, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, and Badin from June 25 to 28.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Nowshera, Malakand, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, and Swat are expected to face similar weather conditions through July 1.

Thunderstorms are also likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shigar, Diamer, Nagar, Ghizer, and Ghanche.

NDMA also warned of possible landslides in the mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and KP. People are urged to stay away from weak structures, trees, electric poles, and billboards during storms, and park vehicles in safe areas to avoid damage. Visibility may also drop during storms, increasing the risk of accidents.
