Over 60,000 Citizens Fined in Punjab for Two Traffic Violations

The Punjab Traffic Police has intensified enforcement of traffic laws this month, issuing fines worth over Rs. 120 million to more than 60,000 individuals for not wearing helmets or seat belts.

According to a spokesperson, the campaign reflects Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision that “observing traffic laws is everyone’s responsibility.” The focus, they said, is on protecting lives—not simply issuing tickets.

In June alone, over 60,000 fines were issued across Punjab to motorcyclists for riding without helmets. In Lahore, such violations resulted in fines totaling over Rs. 15 million.

Additionally, more than 14,600 motorists were penalized for not wearing seat belts while driving.

Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig clarified that the intent behind enforcing these safety measures is not revenue collection, but rather the preservation of lives. He stressed that all passengers in a vehicle must use seat belts and follow basic safety rules.

The Punjab Traffic Police confirmed that operations will continue across the province, with stricter actions being taken to ensure road safety and greater compliance with traffic regulations.

  • With Rs 120 million collected in fines in just one month in Punjab, it’s crucial to utilize these funds effectively for road safety initiatives. Instead of letting the funds go to waste or being misused, they could be reinvested in:

    1. Distributing free helmets to promote safe riding practices.
    2. Maintaining and upgrading traffic signals to ensure smooth traffic flow.
    3. Installing new signals at required locations to prevent accidents.

By doing so, we can improve road safety, reduce accidents, and benefit the community. Let’s ensure these funds are used for the greater good!

  • This is a way of earning revenue from downtrodden poor people in the guise of safty measure,it would be best if government bring in more buses and taxis.people have to go in emergency,in offices and chief minister is harrasing poor people, why the do not Callan cars instead of motorcycles and rikshaws, please instead of making challans to poor people, who are mostly unemployed, jobless, government should give people first employment and jobs, this is making people more worried, only justified challans ought to be made.and help people so that the can move up and down easily

    • Ethics are very important ! Despite of their financial condition i.e poor or rich.

  • Dear Traffic Police, Motor bikers are the biggest culprit in violations of trafic rules all over Pakistan and they are harrasing and physicalpy threatening car drivers and blocking their way on road. Sub sey zyafa badmashi motorcycle ealey kartey hein everyone knows that. Plus they are driving one way or crossing red signals and their no plates are not traceable. They are also speeding and deliberately entering into car lanes causing mess. Please remove them permanently from car lanes and arrest them for threatening car drivers in public. New Punjab no plates should be placed on motorbikes, it should be made compulsory so they can be traced from cctv cameras for violations. Motorbikers are the biggest headache in traffic, i hope strict legal action is taken.

  • The traffic condition in pakistan is lawless at its finest. Even the police are riding motorcycles without helmets. And all it takes is a bump from a car to lose their life.

Praying for a ban on motorcycles in the capital.

  • For the sake of consistency and equitable consideration of all lives, this initiative should be universally applied to government vehicles and motorcycles.

  • I request traffic police and Punjab govt to communicate motorcycle & rickshaw drivers to use backlights in night as it is very different for car drivers to judge in dark time also request to use bike lanes on ferozpur road as many riders are still using car lanes and not giving space to car drivers.
