A Saudi Arabian flight made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) in Karachi on Friday after one of its engines caught fire midair. The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft, which had departed from Karachi en route to Jeddah, experienced an engine warning light.
The flight’s captain promptly contacted the Air Traffic Controller (ATC), who directed the aircraft to vacate runway 25-L for an emergency landing. The airport administration activated all emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in response to the situation.
Upon landing, an engineering team was dispatched to examine the aircraft. The Pakistan Airports Authority spokesperson confirmed that all passengers were safely offloaded following the landing. Initial inspections revealed no faults in the engine, alleviating immediate concerns about the aircraft’s condition.
The Civil Aviation Department was also notified of the emergency landing, and aviation officials emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority. A detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway to determine the cause of the engine fire.
