Pakistan Post Changes Pricing Policy for Domestic and International Parcels

Pakistan Post has announced a major change in its pricing system, set to take effect from July 1, 2025. From this date, charges for general parcels and Express Mail Service (EMS) – both domestic and international – will be calculated using the volumetric weight system instead of just the actual weight.

This system, already used by private courier companies in Pakistan and abroad, will now apply to all parcels handled by Pakistan Post.

According to a circular issued by the postal headquarters, the volumetric weight will be determined by multiplying the parcel’s length, width, and height in centimeters and dividing the result by 5,000. The higher of the actual or volumetric weight will be considered for pricing.

The move is aimed at improving revenue and cutting losses, particularly caused by large parcels with low actual weight. Pakistan Post noted that it had been incurring heavy costs due to such parcels under the old system.

The actual weight limit for parcels remains 30 kilograms. However, a list of additional charges will now apply if the parcel’s volumetric size exceeds the threshold.

The change was formally approved during a recent meeting of the Postal Services Management Board.
