An embarrassing error has been discovered in the First Year Chemistry textbook published by the Punjab Curriculum, Training, and Assessment Authority (PECTA), where a photograph of India’s Red Fort has been wrongly identified as Lahore’s Shahi Qila.
The image appears in a chapter focusing on environmental pollution and the impact of smog on historical monuments, but instead of showcasing the Lahore Fort, it features the Red Fort in Delhi.

The textbook, which is currently in use across government schools in Punjab, has drawn sharp criticism from educational experts and historians, who have condemned the apparent lack of attention to historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has taken notice. He has ordered a formal inquiry to determine how the mistake occurred, promising that necessary steps will be taken once the investigation is complete.
