The Punjab government has officially launched the “Plastic-Free Punjab Pledge” campaign as part of a major environmental initiative. Under this drive, a complete ban has been enforced on plastic bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns or smaller than 12×16 inches.
The campaign, led by the Punjab Environment Protection Department, aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastics and promote cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Punjab Secretary for Environment, Salwat Saeed, along with Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh and other officials, visited various commercial areas to promote the campaign and seek cooperation from businesses. They emphasized strict enforcement of the ban and urged shopkeepers and vendors to switch to eco-friendly alternatives.
Secretary Saeed stated that the initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable living and is a revolutionary move for public health and environmental protection. He stressed that single-use plastics are a major environmental hazard and pose serious risks to human health. “From now on, plastic bags below 75 microns in thickness will neither be produced nor used,” he added.
Businesses are being encouraged to adopt green alternatives and move away from restricted plastic products.
