West Indies Yet to Agree to PCB’s Request for T20I-Only Tour

Pakistan cricket team’s upcoming tour of the West Indies is facing uncertainty just a month out from the contests, as the PCB is still awaiting a formal response from Cricket West Indies (CWI) regarding its proposal to change the itinerary of the tour.

The PCB is eager to convert the scheduled ODI series into additional T20 Internationals—a move aimed at fine-tuning preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the PCB tabled the suggestion earlier this month as part of discussions to realign the tour with the evolving demands of modern cricket. With the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup both set to be played in the T20 format, Pakistan’s management believes maximizing the number of T20I fixtures will provide the squad with valuable match practice.

At present, Pakistan is scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs during their visit to the Caribbean later this summer. The T20Is are set to begin on July 31 (August 1 PST), followed by the ODIs on August 8, 10, and 12. If the proposal is accepted, the T20I leg could expand to five or even six matches, removing the ODIs altogether.

While both boards have maintained open lines of communication, no official confirmation has yet been issued by CWI. Officials in Lahore remain hopeful that a decision will be made imminently to provide clarity for selectors and logistical planners.

The timing of the decision is significant. Should the conversion be finalized, Pakistan’s squad for the Caribbean would be announced in tandem with the team named for the Bangladesh series, streamlining preparations across formats.

For both Pakistan and West Indies, who are in transition and eager to sharpen their white-ball skills, the proposed adjustment represents an opportunity to test combinations and build momentum ahead of major tournaments.

An official announcement is expected once CWI completes its internal deliberations. Until then, Pakistan’s players and support staff remain in wait-and-see mode as plans for the Caribbean tour hang in the balance.
