Sugar prices have witnessed a notable surge over the past week, with wholesale and retail markets both reporting significant increases, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
In Karachi, the wholesale rate has climbed from Rs173 to Rs175 per kilogram. Meanwhile, retail prices have jumped by Rs5 to Rs10, with sugar now selling between Rs185 and Rs190 per kilogram.

Traders in the market attribute the rise to a mismatch between supply and demand. “The imbalance between sales and purchases has pushed prices upward,” one wholesaler explained.
In Lahore, a 50-kilogram sack of sugar is now being sold for Rs8,950, indicating a continued upward trend in prices across the province.
Despite the hike, there has been no immediate response or intervention from the Punjab government, raising concerns about potential inflationary pressure on essential commodities in the coming weeks.
