The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs. 490 billion in the form of Withholding Tax (WHT) and General Sales Tax (GST) through electricity bills in FY 2024-25, down from Rs. 600 billion in the previous year.
This happened while the total power usage by consumers fell by 3.6 percent to 80,111 GWh during July–March FY25, from 83,109 GWh in the same period of FY24.
Industrial electricity usage notably declined from 28,830 GWh in FY24 to 21,082 GWh in FY25.
Importantly, tax revenue from salaried individuals jumped to Rs. 552 billion in FY25, compared to Rs. 367 billion a year earlier.
In real estate, the FBR collected Rs. 235 billion from property transactions under sections 236C and 236K of the Income Tax Ordinance. This includes Rs. 118 billion from 236C and Rs. 117 billion from 236K, compared to Rs. 90 billion and Rs. 104 billion respectively in FY24.
Overall, the FBR raised Rs. 5.8 trillion in direct taxes in FY25. The corporate sector contributed Rs. 3.8 trillion, while the banking sector alone paid Rs1 to Rs. 1.5 trillion in income and withholding taxes.

If there is Withholding tax . Why is there a sales tax ?
If there is sales tax. There should be no Withholding tax
You also forgot income tax which also makes no sense since I paid sales tax. I got no income out of it.
And why don’t u show your articles to the politicians instead ?
Legally they can collect WHT and ST at the same time. The question is it justified, i would say BIG NO. And Income TAX portion is white collar crime in electricity bill which should be renamed with Govt incompetence fee.
Govt is collecting WH Tax twice through cell phone companies, firstly on recharge and secondly when we make a call. I don’t know how much tax is charged on every 100 rupees recharge but it is cruelty n persecution
