NADRA Denies Not Paying Rent of Headquarters for 25 Years

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that no rent is pending for its headquarters building,

NADRA has countered objections raised during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting. The PAC members were briefed that NADRA has occupied a State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) building in Islamabad for the past 25 years without paying any rent.

A NADRA spokesperson told ProPakistani that the land was originally allotted to its predecessor, the National Database Organization (NDO), by the Government of Pakistan through a formal letter dated February 17, 2000. Following the establishment of NADRA in 2002, this allotment was reconfirmed via another government letter issued on March 9, 2002.

NADRA emphasized that its head office has remained in the same building for the past 25 years and no audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan has raised any objections regarding occupancy or rent. The spokesperson also noted that various other government departments, including offices of National Assembly standing committee chairpersons, are housed in the same building without being asked to pay rent.

The NADRA Authority Board reviewed the matter in its 69th meeting, concluding that the property was officially allotted by the federal government and therefore does not require rental payment.

NADRA affirmed it regularly pays its property tax to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as part of its responsibilities.
