Changan has revealed a working prototype of its electric-powered flying jetpack at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2025. It was presented as part of Changan’s broader innovation showcase.
In an exclusive conversation with ProPakistani, a Changan spokesperson confirmed that multiple jetpack models are under development, with the prototype now undergoing active testing.
Technical Capabilities and Design
According to Changan, the showcased jetpack is capable of vertical lift for up to 30 minutes at altitudes reaching 1,000 feet. It is powered by a triple-turbine electric engine and features a stabilizer design that prioritizes both balance and maneuverability.
The equipment is designed with a central harness system and dual-propeller arms, each with joystick-like control extensions. On-ground images reveal a compact frame likely intended for personal transport use, though no details have yet been shared about payload capacity or regulatory compliance.
Investment in Aerial Mobility
Changan’s jetpack development is part of its broader commitment to low-altitude transportation technologies. The initiative traces back to a partnership signed with eVTOL in December 2024. At the time, Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong announced a five-year investment plan of over $2.7 billion into the sector.
Looking ahead, Changan plans to increase this commitment to more than $13.9 billion over the next decade. The funding is meant not only for flying vehicles, but also for research into integrated mobility platforms across land, sea, air, and robotics.
Before unveiling the jetpack, Changan had already introduced three early flying vehicle concepts that resembled large drones. These initial models had limited capabilities and were primarily used to test propulsion and stability systems.
