In a significant departure from traditional investment-based residency routes, the United Arab Emirates has introduced a new nomination-based Golden Visa program, initially targeting Indian and Bangladeshi nationals. This innovative scheme allows individuals to obtain long-term residency without the need to invest in property or own a business.
As part of this pilot initiative, eligible applicants can secure residency by paying a one-time fee of AED 100,000, a substantial reduction from the previous AED 2 million (USD 545,000) investment requirement.
The program opens new avenues for a wide range of professionals, including scientists, educators, digital content creators, healthcare workers, and maritime experts. Applicants must undergo thorough background checks, including assessments related to financial integrity and criminal history. In addition, they must demonstrate how their skills or contributions can benefit the UAE in fields such as culture, science, economics, or public service.
Approved candidates will receive a long-term residency—described as a “lifetime” visa—which is not dependent on maintaining property or a business in the country.
The eligible pool includes experienced teachers and nurses (with over 15 years in the field), startup founders, podcasters, YouTubers, certified e-sports players aged 25 or older, and owners of luxury yachts. Applications can be filed online, at authorized service centers, or via helplines in the applicant’s home country.
A notable feature of the program is the ability to sponsor family members without any additional investment. Golden Visa holders can bring their spouses, children (including sons up to age 25 and daughters of any age if unmarried), elderly parents, newborns, and domestic workers. The duration of residency for dependents matches the principal visa holder’s term.
This new visa model reflects a broader shift in the UAE’s immigration strategy—one that prioritizes skill, talent, and long-term contribution over capital investment. Authorities have indicated that a wider international rollout may follow, depending on the results of this pilot phase.
The initiative positions the UAE as a more accessible and appealing destination for skilled professionals and creative individuals seeking long-term security for their careers and families.
