The Clifton Board Cantonment (CBC) has found 125 old buildings that are unsafe to live in and has told people to leave them right away for their own safety.
CBC has completed the first phase of a comprehensive survey to identify unsafe and dilapidated buildings within its jurisdiction, following last week’s deadly building collapse in Lyari that claimed 27 lives.
According to CBC officials, the survey has identified 125 buildings as dangerous and unfit for habitation.
The breakdown of these structures includes 51 in Delhi Colony, 16 in Madinabad, 7 in Lower Gizri, 5 in Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Colony, and 14 in Punjab Colony. Additionally, 27 buildings in Pak Jumpur Colony and 5 in Bakhshan Village have also been declared derelict.
CBC authorities have warned that these buildings pose a significant risk to life and property, especially with the onset of the monsoon season.
Owners and tenants of the identified buildings have been instructed to vacate immediately to prevent any potential tragedies.
The survey is part of a city-wide effort to address the issue of unsafe structures after the recent Lyari incident highlighted the urgent need for action.
CBC has stated that further surveys and safety measures are ongoing to ensure public safety in all residential and commercial areas under its administration.
