CDA is Shifting Dozens of Graves for New Road Project in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has informed residents that around 200 graves in Sohan Cemetery will be affected by a new road project in Islamabad.

The authority is constructing a new link road from Sohan to Gulberg Green. The project is located parallel to the Islamabad Expressway.

According to the CDA, the planned route passes through part of the Sohan graveyard. As a result, authorities need to relocate nearly 200 graves before completing the road work.

The CDA has asked affected families to immediately identify the graves of their relatives. Officials said timely identification would help complete the relocation process without delays.

The authority added that it has already started shifting graves identified by legal heirs. However, officials are carrying out the process only after receiving consent from the concerned families.

The CDA is also providing support to affected families. This includes ambulance services, preparation of new graves, and other necessary facilities required during the relocation.

However, the authority has not yet announced a formal policy or standard operating procedures for families that refuse to cooperate.

In such cases, officials will proceed according to legal requirements and instructions issued by senior authorities, the CDA said.
