Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to prepare a comprehensive strategy aimed at transforming the organization into an international-standard shipping company.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review the restructuring, reforms, and performance of the shipping corporation, the prime minister emphasized the vast investment potential within Pakistan’s shipping sector. He instructed that a detailed plan be developed to encourage private investment in the industry.
He also called for measures to increase the number of vessels and to promote the competitive use of PNSC ships for cargo movement within Pakistan. He stressed the importance of engaging industry experts and consultants to help elevate PNSC to global standards.
The prime minister noted that reforms in the national shipping corporation would not only save valuable foreign exchange currently paid to international companies but also create more employment opportunities for local seafarers.
The review meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and other senior officials. The participants were briefed on the current fleet size, annual cargo movement in Pakistan, and future expansion plans for PNSC. The meeting also included a detailed presentation on the corporation’s operations.
