Vehicle Emission Testing Starts in Major City

Islamabad’s Transport Authority, in collaboration with Punjab’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has started a large-scale vehicle emissions testing campaign across the city to fight air pollution.

The drive officially kicked off with the inspection of ITA Chairman Irfan Memon’s vehicle, which passed the test and received a scannable clearance sticker. These digital stickers will be issued to all vehicles that meet the emission standards.

According to officials, advanced equipment is being used to measure carbon monoxide levels in exhaust fumes. Vehicles with up to 6% carbon monoxide emissions will be cleared. Those exceeding this limit will get a warning. Repeat violations may lead to fines or restrictions.

The first phase targets government vehicles, with full testing at the Pak Secretariat planned for tomorrow. In the next phase, private and public transport vehicles will also be tested at bus terminals and traffic checkpoints across Islamabad.

EPA’s Sajid Bashir explained that the goal is to improve air quality through modern testing methods and real-time digital monitoring.

Authorities urged drivers to maintain their vehicles properly. The campaign aims to hold everyone accountable for their emissions and to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment in the capital.
