Dubai Police have arrested a motorist for speeding and illegally using an emergency lane, in a case that resulted in a fine of AED 50,000, or approximately Rs. 3.8 million. The violation, considered serious under the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law, also led to the immediate seizure of the driver’s vehicle.
Emergency Lane Laws Strictly Enforced
Authorities emphasized that emergency lanes are designated strictly for first responders, including ambulances, fire services, and police. Unauthorized use not only hinders these services but also poses significant risks to public safety.
Vehicle Recovery Fee Could Reach AED 100,000
Officials noted that depending on the nature of the violation and the driver’s record, the cost to recover a seized vehicle in such cases can go as high as AED 100,000 — roughly Rs. 7.74 million. This figure reflects the gravity with which UAE law enforcement treats such offenses.
Call for Responsible Driving
Dubai Police have once again urged all motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations and avoid reckless behavior that can endanger lives. The case serves as a stark reminder of the strict penalties in place for violations involving critical road infrastructure.

Many drivers won’t follow the rules, drive wrong way, won’t respect speed limits, change lanes when not permitted… Almost go ran over when a driver turn the wrong way and when I confronted him he got angry even though he was on the wrong….
I hope these draconian fines are applicable to Emarati citizens too and not just expats.
