Good News for Surplus School Teachers in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the transfer of surplus teachers across the province to schools facing staff shortages, marking the beginning of a major rationalisation drive.

According to the School Education Department, the process has officially begun from today, with surplus teachers being reassigned to institutions where their services are required.

The department emphasized that only teachers will be relocated, while existing sanctioned posts in schools will remain unchanged.

Initially, the rationalisation plan included 47,000 teachers, but the number has now been reduced to 25,000 following pressure from teacher groups and unions.

Officials said the teachers identified as surplus have already been notified. In a move aimed at easing concerns, the department will also allow affected teachers to indicate their preferred stations during the relocation process.
