The federal government has constituted a high-level committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, to finalize the appointments of senior Grade-22 officers to key international positions as Executive Directors (EDs) at the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Sources told ProPakistani that the process of selecting suitable candidates for these prestigious roles is currently underway.
The positions became vacant after Touqeer Shah resigned from his post as Executive Director at the World Bank to join the federal cabinet as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on PM Affairs. Similarly, the term of Noor Ahmed, Pakistan’s Executive Director at the ADB, has also ended.
Among the leading contenders for the posts are Secretary Finance Imdad Ullah Bosal and Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Dr. Kazim Niaz. However, the final recommendations will be made by the committee headed by Ishaq Dar and forwarded to the Prime Minister for approval.
The roles of ED at both the WB and the ADB are considered highly coveted, not only due to their strategic importance but also because of the attractive compensation packages.
Executive Directors are entitled to a salary exceeding $25,000 per month, along with other benefits. Given the stakes, governments often nominate their most trusted and favored officers for these key foreign assignments, based in Washington, D.C. (WB) and Manila (ADB).
The appointments are expected to be finalized in the coming days.
