Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting where the Transport Department presented a comprehensive briefing on ongoing and upcoming initiatives.
The province has approved the shift to a digital fare payment system for Lahore’s Orange Line and the Metro Bus services in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Islamabad. The traditional token system will soon be discontinued, replaced by a barcode-based entry through card payments.
Commuters will be able to pay using credit or debit cards, ATM cards, and mobile wallet apps. A tap-and-go system using NFC technology will also be implemented, allowing seamless access across the entire mass transit network.
A single unified T-Cash Card has been approved, which will be valid for all metro and Orange Line rides across Punjab. Special transit cards for students are also in development.
The meeting also greenlit technical recruitments (Grades 5 to 18) in the Transport Department and the province’s first international transport expo.
Plans were also revealed for introducing a universal RFID sticker for vehicles and replacing traditional motorcycle rickshaws with electric versions.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has requested detailed proposals for the electric rickshaw initiative, while the launch of electric buses across Punjab districts is expected in August.

But every Debit card in Pakistan now a days has a NFC chip in it. So, No worries.
As mentioned in the article there will be multiple ways so obviously NFC will be optional.
This is highly condemnable decision taken by Punjab govt . This not America r Europe where people r educated half century before about card system .. here in Pakistan 70 percent of the population is un aware . and you start to make Europe . We hate this ugly type of decision which not console the commuter any way ..
