Several parts of Lahore have been designated as no-bird zones, with strict measures now in place to safeguard aircraft.
This initiative, launched under the guidance of Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and the Secretary of Forests, is being carried out by the Wildlife Protection Force, led by Chief Wildlife Ranger Rambin Elahi. The Punjab government has communicated details of this large-scale operation to all relevant stakeholders and groups.
The no-bird zones, established through ring fencing, cover areas such as Lahore Eastern Bypass, Manawan Hospital, PKLI, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Achhra, and Chah Miran.
A coordinated operation involving the district administration, Environmental Protection Force, and Wildlife Protection Force is underway in these zones.
To further reduce bird activity near airports, a total ban on littering has been enforced, and the use of covered trash bins is now compulsory. Slaughterhouses and poultry farms that do not comply with environmental standards will be shut down, and strict enforcement of environmental regulations will extend to the leather industry.
Additionally, feeding birds by tossing food or money on rooftops, courtyards, or public spaces is now prohibited, as is the keeping and flying of pigeons. Offenders will face arrest, heavy fines, and other penalties.
Media sources report that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set a July 30 deadline for authorities to clear sensitive zones around airports as part of her campaign to enhance air travel safety.
Following her directives, efforts to clear an 8-kilometer radius around airports have intensified, with wildlife, environmental, and district teams actively working in the designated no-bird zones.
