Trump Claims Five Jets Downed in Pakistan-India Conflict

US President Donald Trump has stated that as many as five fighter jets were downed during the recent conflict between India and Pakistan.

Trump made these comments during a dinner with Republican lawmakers at the White House on Friday. He remarked, “Planes were being shot out of the air. Five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down actually,” while discussing the India-Pakistan tensions, though he did not provide further specifics.

Pakistan has asserted that it shot down five Indian aircraft during the aerial clashes. In contrast, India’s top military official denied the claims despite international media verifying downed Indian Rafale jets in the conflict.

President Trump has often taken credit for brokering the ceasefire, lamenting that he has not received enough recognition for his role. He announced the ceasefire on social media on May 10, following diplomatic discussions between Washington and both South Asian countries.

However, Indian officials have disputed Trump’s version of events, insisting that the ceasefire was the result of direct negotiations between India and Pakistan, without any external mediation.

India continues to be a key US partner in efforts to counter China’s influence in Asia, while Pakistan has seen renewed diplomatic engagement with the US under Trump’s administration.

Despite speculation in local media, the White House clarified on Thursday that there are currently no plans for President Trump to visit Pakistan.
