The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, operating under the Interior Ministry, will soon begin including the mother’s name in all new Pakistani passports, multiple media outlets have reported.
Director-General Mustafa Jamal Kazi says the revision brings Pakistan in line with international norms and addresses practical problems faced by single mothers and children.
Currently, national IDs and travel documents only list the father’s name—a practice officials say has led to legal and administrative complications.
While existing passports will remain valid until they expire, all passports issued going forward will feature both parents’ names.
