Field Marshal General Asim Munir on Tuesday met with prominent figures from Pakistan’s business community in Islamabad, where he was briefed on the country’s economic outlook and policy concerns, according to informed sources.
The meeting was led by former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ijaz and included APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad, SM Tanveer, the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), and representatives of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During the discussion, Gohar Ijaz briefed the Field Marshal on the economy’s recent signs of stability and emphasized that the business community supports the government’s ongoing economic policies. He urged the creation of a more business-friendly environment to sustain reforms.
Ijaz also called for aligning interest rates with inflation, addressing concerns raised over the federal budget, and promoting an export-driven economic model. He stressed the need to protect national cotton and the country’s farmers, and urged the government to deliver on the promises made in the budget speech.
