Several electricity tariff relief measures announced under the Prime Minister’s affordable electricity package are set to expire by the end of this month, sources told ProPakistani.
The Rs. 1.55 per unit relief under the third quarter adjustment of the last financial year will end this month. This follows the earlier expiry of a Rs. 4.51 per unit relief, which had also included a Rs. 3.61 per unit reduction specifically for Karachi.
Additionally, the Rs. 1.90 per unit relief under the second quarter adjustment and the Rs. 1.71 per unit reduction in petroleum levy had already expired in June.
Another relief of 90 paisa per unit under the Retained Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA), which applied only to DISCO consumers, has also ended.
Currently, electricity consumers are still receiving partial relief under quarterly adjustments and the petroleum levy, but many of these concessions are phasing out.
On April 3, the Prime Minister had announced a Rs. 7.41 per unit reduction in electricity rates for domestic users. As of this month, the federal government has cut the base tariff by Rs. 1.16 per unit and reduced the monthly adjustment for DISCO consumers by 50 paisa per unit.

The increase in electricity and petrol prices don’t affect the people who decide these rates. For them all these utilities and other perks are free. So they don’t give a fig to raise the costs for common public. Nothing comes out of their pockets instead they are the ones looting and plundering this country.
All these issues need to be seen and reviewed on the bases of basic rights of the people.

We have been given to understand govt negotiations with private power producers are successful and billions of rupees will be saved. Benefits of this will be passed on to consumers. What happened to that?

This is the reason people are switching to Solar power. People don’t believe in any economic improvement claims of this lier government. Very soon there will be very few citizen buying electricity from government. Industries are also installing their own Solar and wind turbines. The insane rates of electricity will sink them.
