Punjab to Launch Electric Bus Service in Smaller Districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the upcoming arrival of the province’s first fleet of electric buses, aimed at transforming public transport access in underserved districts.

In a statement shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the CM revealed that 1,100 electric buses are currently being manufactured in China, with the first batch of 240 buses expected to reach Punjab on August 22.

She added that these air-conditioned electric buses will be deployed to smaller districts that have never had public transport systems before. “The fare will be Rs. 20 only,” Maryam Nawaz said, highlighting the government’s effort to make travel affordable for all segments of the population.

Each bus will feature CCTV cameras for safety monitoring and built-in wheelchair ramps, ensuring the service is accessible and secure for everyone, including persons with disabilities.

The electric bus service is expected to not only ease commuting challenges but also reduce environmental pollution across the province.
