Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday inaugurated the Fish Food Street in Keamari, calling it a “distinct recreational and culinary destination” for the city’s residents.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor Wahab said the new venue offers the people of Karachi a vibrant space to enjoy entertainment and food in a scenic setting.
The food street features a variety of traditional and local dishes, with a special emphasis on seafood, including fish, prawns, and crabs, alongside barbecue and other delicacies. Arrangements have been made to provide comfortable family seating, enhancing the dining experience.
Detailing the project, the mayor shared that the development covers 62,000 square feet paved with pavers, 35,000 square feet with tuff tiles, installation of 25 Victorian-style streetlights, and construction of two arch-shaped entrance gates. Additional works include laying 1,400 running feet of sewerage lines, 100,000 square feet of patchwork, 3,000 running feet of kerb stones, beautification of the surroundings, and installation of 500 decorative umbrellas.
“This initiative offers citizens and visitors a modern, well-designed space where comfort meets aesthetics,” Wahab remarked. “Such projects will continue to uplift Karachi’s image and improve amenities for its residents.”
Highlighting the area’s transformation, Wahab noted that Keamari residents had long requested a food street similar to Burns Road, but the demand had gone unaddressed until now. He credited PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision for ensuring equal development across Karachi.
He also pointed to recent infrastructure work in the vicinity, including road upgrades leading to the oil terminal. Addressing traffic concerns, Wahab said heavy port traffic is being redirected through Shahrah-i-Bhutto to Kathore to ease congestion. The section from Qayyumabad to Quaidabad is already operational, with over 12,000 vehicles using the route daily. The Kathore segment will be inaugurated on December 31, 2025.
The mayor also mentioned the ongoing restoration of major bridges, including the Native Jetty, Jinnah, and ICI bridges, under the leadership of PPP’s elected representatives.
The inauguration event was attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, MPAs Asif Khan and Liaquat Askani, Deputy Parliamentary Leader in City Council Dil Muhammad, Mauripur Town Chairman Humayun Khan, Vice Chairman Asif Kausar, City Council members, and other dignitaries.
